Town of Parker Arbor Day celebration and 5K – May 7, 2016

Arbor Day event & run re-scheduled:
Parker Parks and Recreation’s Arbor Day Celebration and Arbor Day 5 Mile Run/Walk & Family Fun Trek, which was originally scheduled for April 30, has been postponed until May 7 due to this weekend’s weather forecast.

Parker has Plenty of Trees. That Means You Get Your Own Seedlings This Arbor Day

We live in such an amazing Town! Because the Town of Parker’s parks are “beautifully and sufficiently planted,” you can celebrate Arbor Day this year by planting free seedling trees in your own yard instead of on town property.

If you stop by the Town’s Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, May 7, 2016, you will be given free seedlings. You’ll also be able to get free advice at the arborist table, where members of the Town’s Parks and Forestry Team will answer questions about tree planting, pruning and tree selection.

The fun starts at 9 a.m. at Salisbury Park, 11920 Motsenbocker Road, and will also include a pancake breakfast and opportunity for kids to build and take home a bird house, courtesy of Home Depot.

But that’s not all! The Parks and Recreation Department has added an Arbor Day 5 Mile Run/Walk & Family Fun Trek. Part of the Parker Parks and Recreation Run Series, the professionally-timed 5 mile and fun family event features finishers’ medals and race bibs for all registered participants.

Pre-race registration, which closes at noon on April 28, is $25 with walk-up/race-day registration for an additional $5 for the 5-mile event. Cost for the Family Fun Trek is $10. If you register four or more people, you can get a 20% discount.

Although this is part of the run series, you’ll be pleased to know that strollers and leashed dogs are welcome. For more information and to register, visit www.ParkerRec.com/ArborDay5Mile.

Come on out and celebrate with the Town of Parker. The Arbor Day festivities are offered as fun, educational event as part of the Town’s effort to remain a “Tree City USA.” The annual Arbor Day celebration and a requirement that the Town spend $2 per resident on tree care, such as planting and pruning, have contributed to Parker being named a Tree City USA for each of the last 23 years.

Seedling trees, refreshments and giveaways will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions about Parker’s celebration, visit www.ParkerRec.com/ArborDay, call 303.805.3263 or email [email protected].
