December 6th, 2017 Saint Nicholas Day

Saint Nicholas Day

Date When Celebrated : Always December 6

St. Nicholas Day is today, in honor of the Christian Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas lived in Greece 200 years after the birth of Jesus. He very much followed the Christian beliefs, gave up all his worldly possessions and gave to the needy, especially children. Hanging stockings by the chimney started with Saint Nicholas. The ancient legend tells us that Saint Nicholas was throwing gold coins into open windows of the poor and one bag fell into the stocking of a child. From there on out people would hang their stockings up in hopes of Saint Nicholas stopping by!
