Paint Recycling Program Now Available for Colorado Residents

paint swatchesAs an environmentally conscious and certified “green” REALTOR, I am always happy when I can pass along some great recycling programs. And this is especially fantastic news – because homeowners are often painting and renovating their homes.

Beginning earlier this summer, a new paint recycling program went into affect to make it much more convenient for homeowners – and business owners – to recycle unwanted paint.

Under the program, there are more than 100 drop-off sites that accept most house paints, primers, stains, sealers and clear top coatings (varnish and shellac) that adhere to the program’s requirements.

In the Parker area, there are three drop-off locations – Guirys, KWAL and Sherwin Williams. Thanks to these businesses, Parker residents have another option for disposing of paint and other eligible products – rather than waiting for the annual household chemical roundup.

If you live elsewhere in the state, you can find the program’s requirements and a complete list of drop-off sites across Colorado at www.PaintCare.org.

This program is funded by a nominal fee that has been added to the price of paint sold in Colorado, so there is no cost for drop-offs.

In Parker, the discharge of paint or any other substance into the stormwater system is an illicit discharge that violates Town Code, as well as state and federal law. To report illegal dumping, please call the Town of Parker’s Stormwater Hotline at 303.805.6262.
