2015 Parker Days Offers Up All Sorts of Thrills and Chills!

The 2015 Parker Days festival offers a bit of something for everyone – from the opening evening’s entertainment provided by Rick Springfield and FACE to traditional rides and games for kids.

While the carnival rides and entertainment begin on Thursday, June 11, with the Springfield/FACE concert (tickets required), that probably isn’t the only day that you’ll want to head to O’Brien Park and downtown Parker to check out the activities.

parker days paradeIf you’ve got young children, you don’t want to miss the traditional Saturday parade. It begins at 10 a.m., starting at the PACE Center and traveling West along Mainstreet before turning right on Victorian. There should be plenty of room to stand along the route so you can get a good view of all of the marching bands, fire trucks, vintage cars and sports mascots.

Following the parade, is the Strongman Competition, where individuals show off their physical prowess.

On Sunday, the day begins with a Pancake Breakfast from 8:00-10:00 a.m. in the Main Stage area, benefiting the Parker Task Force food bank. All it costs is a canned good per person.

Also on Sunday, the members of the Parker Car Club will show off about 200 classic cars at their car show at Pikes Peak Drive and Pikes Peak Court.

Of course, there also will be plenty of carnival rides – about 40 of them – beginning on Thursday night to provide some excitement for thrill seekers, as well as entertainment on three different stages (more on that next week).

You don’t need to worry about food or drinks. As always, Parker Days has about 20 food booths, as well as its traditional beer booth.  A new addition this year will be a wine slush and beer mixing area. That’s where the chills come in. The wine slushies are made of gelato and wine. The mixed beers blend various types of beer I’ve never even heard of to give you a whole new taste sensation.

The festival is free, but tickets must be purchased for the carnival rides. A one-day pass is $25 if purchased in advance and $30 on site. A mega pass also can be purchased in advance for $60 and covers all four days.

Parking will be available at the RTD lot on Longs Way, at the Parker Senior Center for $5 and at Parker Station for $5. Parking will be available also at the PACE Center, except during the Saturday parade and Sunday’s Farmer’s Market.

Plan ahead to come out for at least part of the 3 ½ days of events as Parker unofficially welcomes in summer.
