COOL APPS -Apps That Help Make Us Safer (Part 3)
Part 3 of our series of ‘Cool Apps’ in Real Estate.
Smartphones provide us with so many tools that come in handy as we go about our daily business. Here are two that I found recently that will provide you with a little bit of security as you run errands, take a hike or drive across the country.
The first one is called Find My Car!
While you probably don’t forget where you parked your car on a regular basis, there are times when a crowded parking lot can be overwhelming. I know I’ve seen people carrying their purchases and walking around mall parking lots, wondering if they are in the right row.
With this app, you can get rid of that problem for good. It uses GPS location services to help you find your car.
But it does take a little extra effort. After you park, you need to open the app and save your car position on the map. If you want to do even more, you can take a picture and associate a short description to help fully document the parking spot.
Then, after you’ve spent the afternoon shopping or walking around a city you are visiting, all you have to do is open the app and locate your last car position on the map. As you walk the street or parking lot, the distance to your car is displayed in real time. The app even gives you the best walking directions from your current position to your parked location.

The second cool app is bSafe.
Designed to keep you and your friends safer 24/7, this app is packed with features for both everyday safety and real emergencies.
This is great for people who travel alone or want little bit of extra security while walking alone at night or jogging on a trail. By setting up your own personal safety network of friends, family and coworkers, you’ll rest assure that someone has your back.
According to its website, bSafe allows you to:
* Share locations when you and your network members would like to find each other more easily.
* Ask friends to walk you home with Follow Me’s live GPS trace.
* Help friends stay safer by walking them home from wherever you are.
* Use Timer Mode to program an automatic alarm that will trigger if you have not checked in in time.
* Tell selected people where you are at any given time with its I’m Here feature.
Perhaps one of the best functions is that it has a Guardian Alert button that will immediately notify your friends and family members if you are in trouble and need help. It will let them know where you are (GPS) and what’s happening (video). It will even set off an optional siren!
