If you love animals and want to support a good cause, there’s no better place to be than at My Furry Valentine on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at Tagawa Garden Center in Centennial.

My Furry Valentine celebrates the joy that animals bring to our lives, while raising funds for the Youth and Pet Survivors (YAPS) – a program that was started by an oncology nurse in 2001 to help ease the suffering and anxiety of young cancer patients.

There will be plenty of activities for people and their pets to enjoy – everything from chair massages for humans and $5 nail trims for pets, to Valentine’s Day photos of your family and pet, to a pet clairvoyant.

This year’s event has a fun twist – the stage performance of Top Hogs, starring Mudsling, the pig. The comedy-filled trick pig show is an action-packed, crowd pleaser featuring pigs as they perform to music and the cues of renowned animal trainer and performer John Vincent.

You’ll see pigs perform simple tricks, like playing dead and laying down, to more complex accomplishments. For example, Mudslinger will answer his fan mail, do double twists with a hoop, put his toys away, throw out the trash, play piggy golf and soccer, and raise the American flag.

In addition to raising funds for YAPS, the event organizers hope to provide the public with an insight into the valuable work that YAPS is doing for children and pets with cancer.

The pen-pal program matches pediatric oncology patients with dogs and cats who have survived cancer or other serious medical conditions.  Children and pets (via their owners) establish relationships and communicate through letters and email.  This gives the children, ages 8 to 18, the unique opportunity to share their feelings about having cancer with a safe, unconditionally-loving animal.

Come learn about this great program and enjoy some quality time with your pets at Tagawa Garden Center, 7711 S. Parker Road in Centennial, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2015.
