It’s almost here. We’ve been hearing about it for more than a year. And now it’s time for the best female golfers in the world and more than 100,000 of their greatest fans to head to Parker, Colo., for the most prestigious women’s golf tournament– the 2013 Solheim Cup.
Scheduled for Aug. 13-18, 2013, the biennial match-play event showcases the best U.S.-born players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association as they compete against the finest European members from the Ladies European Tour.
I love the idea of the Solheim Cup, an international competition that is held every two years. After all, it is THE BIG event in women’s golf. It’s also a lot more fun than a regular golf tournament. In fact, it’s more like World Cup Soccer or the Olympics, with spectators dressed up in their team’s colors, and hooting and hollering from the stands.
It should be fun to see all those fans as they visit Parker restaurants, hotels and other businesses. I can’t wait to hoot and holler with them.  And as a resident, I can appreciate the money they will be bringing to our community. The economic impact is estimated to be around $20 million.
The area also will get exposure from 74 hours of live coverage on the Golf Channel, where more than 6 million viewers are expected to tune in. Who knows how many new residents this may attract? As a Parker Realtor, I’m anxious to see the type of response we get from this international event, especially as folks experience for the first time the beauty of the Rocky Mountain region.
In the meantime, you can rest assured the lady golfers will bring their smiles, enthusiasm and “A games” for  the three days of matches that begin Aug. 16 at Colorado Golf Club, 8000 Preservation Trail in Parker.
The Americans, who hold an 8-4 win record against the Europeans, will be defending their undefeated record in home matches as they strive to regain the Cup the Europeans won in 2011 in Ireland.
So, let’s join also those crazy fans and cheer our way to another U.S. victory!  GO USA!!
