If You Like Whodunits, You’ll Enjoy The 39 Steps
If you enjoy murder mysteries and theater performances that aren’t too deep or serious, you’ll probably enjoy the quirky show, The 39 Steps, which will be at the Lone Tree Arts Center April 2 through April 11, 2015.
Described as Hitchcock meets hilarious, the play features just four cast members who play more than 100 roles in a fast-paced whodunit. In addition to the zany characters, the Tony Award-winning show is packed with laughs, an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and romance.
The story revolves around a man with a boring life, who meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale.
The New York Times referred to the show as “absurdly enjoyable” and the Daily News called it “a dizzy delight!”
Adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan from the movie of Alfred Hitchcock, The 39 Steps is performed by just four cast members. In Lone Tree, those performers will be:
