New Library Construction to Start Soon
If you drive by the corner where Pine Drive turns into Mainstreet in downtown Parker, you may be wondering when construction of the new library is going to start.
It won’t be long now, Douglas County Libraries recently announced that they will break ground this spring on the new Parker library, as well as a new libraries in Lone Tree and Castle Pines.
The libraries are the result of a building campaign, No Leaf Unturned, which began in 2013. Although the libraries won’t open until 2016, it will be exciting to see dirt moved and foundations laid as a results of that campaign and its fundraising efforts.
When giving us an update, Douglas County Libraries also shared some architectural renderings and a few design details of the new facilities.
For example, the new libraries will each be two stories and share common themes across all three communities. They will feature natural and locally-sourced materials with outdoor spaces that connect library patrons to Colorado’s beautiful landscapes. They also will have study rooms, conference rooms and community rooms.
While those are the similarities, there also will be differences to promote the uniqueness of each community. The Lone Tree library, which will be located near the Lone Tree Arts Center and more than double the space of the current facility, will have “a covered porch, allowing library guests to expand their library experience outdoors.
“A perforated metal screen structure will create a solar veil along the west face of the building, and act as a visual bridge to the adjacent eclectic Lone Tree Arts Center,” according to Douglas County Libraries.

In Parker, the building will have a unique shape, which was “derived from the shape of the site” to leverage views to the west and over Parker’s planned park and plaza. It also will have community rooms, which will be over the library’s entry; study rooms that overlook Mainstreet; and an interactive children’s space.
The Castle Pines library will “feature playful window patterns and accent materials to establish a rich presence along Village Square Lane. Its community room, on the west side of the building, will eventually look over an outdoor roof terrace.”
It’s going to be fun to watch the facilities take shape, we can’t wait until they open!
