It’s amazing how many organizations exist – just to take your old stuff!
Google the words “donate your old shoes,” and you’ll come up with multiple listings. You’ll discover everything from donateyouroldshoes.org, whose mission is to put shoes on the shoeless worldwide,” to the Boulder Running Company (www.boulderrunningcompany.com), which partners with Boulder-based One World Running to share old running and walking shoes with people in need.  You’ll also find soles4souls.org and parentsconnect.com as just a few more groups collecting and sharing used shoes.
It’s simply amazing.  But shoes aren’t the only items that you can recycle by donating them to others. Here are just a few more.
Take those books that you’ve already read. You can donate them to the local library. If they’re paperbacks, you also can donate them to Books for Soldiers, which sends them with care packages to troops deployed all over the world. (http://www.booksforsoldiers.com/)
Reusable and surplus building materials (such as toilets, sinks, cabinets), appliances and furniture can be donated as well. One good place is Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, from which proceeds fund the homes that are built by Habitat for Humanity. (http://www.habitat.org/)
Do you have business clothing that no longer fits or just hangs in your closet? There are lots of organizations that except that. One of my favorites is http://www.dressforsuccess.org/ for women’s clothing. For men’s clothing, check out http://www.careergear.org/.
Let us know if you have other awesome organizations who will accept clothing, books and other items.  We would love to promote them as well!  Happy Recycling!
