Electronics and Prescriptions Disposal Douglas County

You may not be big on spring cleaning, but let me urge you to clean out two areas of your home before this weekend – your prescriptions and your electronics. You don’t want to miss two great opportunities to properly recycle these items in Parker and Douglas County.

Saturday, April 26, 2014, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and the Douglas Elbert Realtor Association’s Electronics Drop Off event.

The Parker (Colorado) Police Department is participating in the prescription drug event – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During that time, the Police Department will collect any expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs at its facility at 18600 E. Lincoln Meadows Parkway.

The service is free and anonymous.

Public safety and public health officials are hoping events like this will educate people about the proper ways of disposing unwanted medications.

People should not throw away or flush their unwanted medications. That causes both potential safety and health hazards. They also should not leave unwanted drugs in their medicine cabinets or give them to friends or family. That can lead to abuse of the prescription drugs – an abuse that is increasing at alarming rates.

So, please gather up those unused, unwanted or expired medications and give them the Parker Police Department this Saturday.

When it comes to electronics, you don’t want to miss the Douglas Elbert Realtor Association’s Electronics Drop Off event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at two locations.

Your old and unwanted electronics will be collected at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, 18801 E. Mainstreet in Parker, while DERA will collect them at association’s office at 840 Kinner Street in Castle Rock.

It will be free to recycle most items, however, there will be a charge for TVs and monitors, ranging from $10 to $40, depending on the size. If you want the data on your old hard drive destroyed, there will be a $5 fee. I can’t think of an easier way to clean out all those old computer monitors, laptops and cell phones.

So, please take a little time this week or on Saturday morning. Gather up your items and dispose of them in a responsible and safe manner.

Your green Realtor thanks you!
