Bike to Work Day / Parker Branching Out Tree Program 2015
Parker has a couple of opportunities going on right now to help the environment. As a certified EcoBroker® and a Parker, CO, REALTOR who cares about the environment, I thought I’d spread the word.
One is a one-day, “Bike to Work Day,” scheduled for June 24, 2015. The other is the Branching Out Parker tree reimbursement program, for which applications must be submitted by July 10, 2015.
Let’s start with the Bike to Work Day. The Town of Parker and Rocky Vista University are inviting area residents to join the other 25,000 commuters who participate in this event. It not only promotes awareness of the benefits of biking, but it also takes thousands of cars off the road for the day.
To encourage participation, there will be a Breakfast Station at the Cherry Creek Trail under the E-470 overpass from 6:30 to 9 a.m., where the first 250 riders will receive an official Bike to Work Day T-shirt.
All bicycle commuters will also have access to a delicious breakfast and a bike technician, thanks to Treads Bike Shop. Restrooms will even be available, thanks to Parker Port-A-Potty. For more information, visit www.ParkerOnline.org/BikeToWorkDay. Riders can also get more information and register on the official Bike to Work Day website at www.BikeToWorkDay.us. Not only will registered riders be counted, but all registrants will be entered in a drawing for fantastic prizes!
Moving on the Branching out Parker. If you’re a Parker homeowner who wants to plant trees on your property this summer, you don’t want to miss this opportunity, which is funded through existing money from developer impact fees.
All single-family, owner-occupied residential lots/units within the Town’s limits are eligible to participate for a maximum of one application a year. Owners of multiple single-family residential units can participate in this program but may only apply for one lot per program year.
The Town is encouraging you to purchase your trees from businesses within the Town limits. If purchased from vendors, licensed nurseries or landscape contractors located within Town limits, the actual tree cost (including installation) will be reimbursed up to $300 or 50%, whichever is less. Trees purchased and installed from vendors located outside the Town limits will be reimbursed up to $260, or 40%, whichever is less.
To be eligible for the reimbursement, ONLY the tree purchases and installation may appear on the invoice that is submitted to the Town for reimbursement.
Applications for the program must be submitted to the Town by 4 p.m. July 10, 2015. Receipts must be received by the Town no later than Nov. 2, 2015.
