Best Websites to Use When Searching for A Home
When searching the Internet for homes for sale or checking on the real estate market, you have many options. Some offer up-to-date information while others can be quite outdated.
We recommend the following three options to search for homes for sale in the Denver Metro area of Colorado:
- REColorado.com, the largest Multiple Listing Service (MLS) in Colorado
that bills itself as accurate and up-to-date. REColorado is the previous Metrolist and where real estate agents through the State get up to the minute listing info.
- Realtor.com, which negotiates for MLS access across the country;

We’re biased, of course, but we think our website is the best option. Our advance search option allows you to search by neighborhood, zip code or even High School. In addition to the search function, you also can save your favorite properties or set up multiple searches for different areas. Additionally, it will automatically notify you when new homes come on the market that fit your criteria.
Websites like Zillow and Trulia are pretty fun sites to navigate and include amazing amounts of information. While these sites get a lot of publicity, it’s important to know they are not real estate brokers but instead ‘third party data aggregators’. They start with County data but then have to negotiate data sharing/syndication agreements with MLS’s to get access to any additional data. Also, some websites enable homeowners the ability to enter information about their property, which may give more details, but can also offer conflicting information that isn’t always accurate.
We’ve seen firsthand the frustration of Buyers who find the ‘right’ home on an aggregator site, only to find out that it was actually sold a couple years ago.
If you want to explore and look at pictures, aggregator sites can be fabulous tools in your search. But if you want more accurate information, the three options recommended above will better assist you in your home search.
